Amazon

Amazon is a company from the USA. The name is sometimes pronounced in English, sometimes as if it were German. You can buy all kinds of things on the company's website. There are household items, books, CDs, DVDs, toys and much more. Similar to the Klexikon, you can enter a term in the search field. Then all kinds of articles appear and you can choose something. When you buy something from Amazon, it is delivered to your home. This is usually done by a shipping company that works together with Amazon. You pay by invoice or credit card.

Amazon was founded by computer scientist Jeff Bezos in 1994 in Seattle in the northwest of the USA. He had the idea together with a work colleague at the company D. E. Shaw & Company. In the end, however, Bezos implemented the idea on his own. He came up with the name Amazon because that is the name of the place where he was born. Originally, Bezos only wanted to sell books on the website. Later, however, he decided to offer other things as well.

When Amazon was bigger, it bought up more and more other companies that also sold things on the internet. Amazon is now one of the richest companies in the world and employs almost 800,000 people. Founder Jeff Bezos is currently considered the second richest person in the world.
