Florida

The state of Florida is located in the southeast of the USA. It is largely located on the peninsula of the same name in the Atlantic Ocean. The west coast of Florida lies on the Gulf of Mexico. Climatically, the north of Florida belongs to the subtropics and the south to the tropics. A well-known national park in Florida are the Everglades. Characteristic for the landscape of Florida are the grasslands covered by water, the swamps and the mangrove forests. The capital of the state is Tallahassee with about 181,000 inhabitants.

The largest city in Florida is Jacksonville, which has a population of about 822,000. Another important city in Florida is Miami with about 400,000 inhabitants. The well-known launch site for space rockets Cape Canaveral is located in Florida. The highest point of the state of Florida is Britton Hill with 105 meters height, which is the lowest highest elevation of all states in the USA. South of the state's mainland are the more than 200 islands of the Florida Keys. This tropical island chain is almost 300 kilometers long and is largely connected by a road, the Overseas Highway.
