Independent

Independent is someone who can decide for himself. He does not have to ask anyone else how he should or may live. This is also called self-determination.

However, even such a person is not truly independent. Nowadays, a person needs the help of many other people: If he is sick, for example, he needs a doctor, and what he eats is grown by farmers.
