India

India is a country in the south of Asia. More than a billion people live there, that is, a thousand million. Only China has more inhabitants. The country is almost ten times the size of Germany and is often called a "subcontinent", i.e. a part of a continent or a "subcontinent". The Indian capital is called New Delhi. Together with its surrounding area, it has over 16 million inhabitants. Mumbai, however, is even larger with over 18 million inhabitants.

India is home to many different peoples with their languages and cultures. It is a land of many gods and religions. After being a colony of Great Britain for almost 200 years, India became independent in 1947. It is considered the largest democracy in the world.
