Ku Klux Klan

The Ku Klux Klan is a secret society from the USA. It is Christian, but in an extreme way. It is often abbreviated as KKK. The organisation is particularly widespread in the southern states of the USA. Its members are very racist. For them, white Christians from the USA are superior to all other people. This is similar to the National Socialism of Adolf Hitler.

The Ku Klux Klan came into being around 1865, when the Civil War had just ended. The Southern states had lost and slavery was abolished throughout America. This did not sit well with some people in the South. They formed the KKK as a kind of "white race resistance". By this, the KKK meant that whites had to be protected from the supposedly evil blacks. Over time, the KKK got many members. Around 1920, there were four million.

Over time, the police cracked down on the organisation several times. Around 1970, a police informer was able to gather a lot of information about the KKK. The organisation was disbanded a few times, but then re-established. Today it still has a few thousand members.
