The state of North Dakota is located in the north of the USA and is part of the greater Midwest region. North Dakota has an external border with the two Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The capital of North Dakota is Bismarck, with a population of approximately 72,000. The largest city in the state of North Dakota, on the other hand, is Fargo, with a population of about 121,000. The city received greater notoriety through the 1996 film of the same name.

The climate of North Dakota is continental. The highest mountain in North Dakota is the 1,069 meter high White Butte. In western North Dakota is the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The landscape there is characterized by hilly terrain that shows clear signs of erosion. This type of landscape is called badlands.
