Pakistan

Pakistan is a country in Asia. It is located between Iran and India. The country is more than twice the size of Germany and has more than twice as many inhabitants. The inhabitants of Pakistan are called Pakistanis. The capital is called Islamabad. For a long time it was Karachi.

The most important river in Pakistan is the Indus. There was an important advanced civilization there in ancient times, the Indus civilization. Later, the British ruled large parts of South Asia. "British India" consisted of what is now India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Almost all inhabitants are Muslims. Islam is even promoted by the state, so it is the religion of the state. Thus, the country is called "Islamic Republic". Pakistan has often been ruled by the army in its history. But it has also supported Islamist terrorists at times. The Pakistan Monument is a museum about the country. It is located in Islamabad. The north of Pakistan is mountainous. There the three highest mountains of the world meet. In the Karakorum Mountains there is also the mountain K2, which is the highest mountain in Pakistan and the second highest mountain in the world. In this region there have also been several bad earthquakes. Deserts occur in the east and south. The south has a coast on the Indian Ocean. The sea sometimes floods the land there.
