The Simpsons is an American animated sitcom that has been on the air since 1989. It follows the lives of a dysfunctional family living in the fictional town of Springfield. The Simpson family consists of Homer, the bumbling and often lazy father, Marge, the devoted and patient mother, and their three children: Bart, the mischievous troublemaker, Lisa, the intelligent and socially conscious middle child, and Maggie, the baby of the family. Other notable characters include the town's wealthy businessman, Mr. Burns, the clumsy and lovable neighbor, Ned Flanders, and the eccentric scientist, Professor Frink.

The show has been praised for its humor, cultural impact, and longevity, and has won numerous awards throughout its run. It is the longest-running American sitcom and the longest-running American animated program, with over 700 episodes to date.
