Texas

The state of Texas is located in the very south of the USA and belongs to the greater Southern States region. After California, it is the state in the USA with the second largest population. Almost 30 million people live in Texas. Three of the ten largest cities in the USA are located in Texas, namely Houston with 2.3 million inhabitants, San Antonio with 1.5 million inhabitants and Dallas with 1.3 million inhabitants.
The capital of Texas is Austin with 948,000 inhabitants. In the south, Texas borders on Mexico. It borders four Mexican states: Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas. The Texas city of El Paso is located on the border with Mexico, where Ciudad Juárez is directly on the other side. This is the city that is notorious for several hundred murders annually and a center of drug crime. In some states in the U.S., corporal punishment of students by teachers is still legal today.
Texas is one of them. The highest mountain in the state of Texas is Guadalupe Peak, which is 2,667 meters high. The climate in Texas is quite varied, ranging from extremely dry desert regions to wetter areas along the Gulf of Mexico, to which Texas has a coastline. Hurricanes and tornadoes also occur there. Texas is the state in the USA where the most oil is produced. Two of the national parks of the USA are located in Texas. Namely Gaudalupe Mountains National Park and Big Bend National Park.
